Where We Work

A big city with every kind of house

Jacksonville and Duval County consolidated in 1968, and it's the largest city by land area in the contiguous United States. The St. Johns River runs right through it, and locals split it into areas like the Northside, Westside, Arlington and Southside.

That size means huge variety. Riverside, Avondale, Springfield and Ortega are historic districts on the National Register. Census data shows about 19% of Jacksonville's housing was built before 1960, while the city's median home dates to 1987, and new subdivisions keep going up.

We're veteran & family-owned, based in St. Augustine, and Jacksonville is part of our regular service area. Our techs carry the common parts on the truck, so most repairs get done in a single visit.

Older & Historic Homes

Cooling a house that wasn't built for AC

Plenty of Jacksonville's older homes were built before central air was standard, and they've been retrofitted since. That brings its own set of problems.

If you live in one of the city's historic districts, you already know these houses have character. High ceilings, plaster walls and original woodwork are great to live with, but they make it harder to run new ductwork. We work around what's there instead of tearing into it, and we'll walk you through every option before anything gets cut.

Ductwork in tight spaces

Ducts squeezed into attics and crawl spaces can leak, sag or come apart over time. Weak airflow in certain rooms is often a duct problem, not an equipment problem.

Rooms that never cool down

Additions, sunrooms and converted porches are often the hottest rooms in an older house. A ductless mini split can cool one room without tearing into walls.

Old wiring, new equipment

We check the electrical side carefully on older homes. Every visit includes a check of electrical components and connections.

Electric heat is the norm

About 94% of occupied homes in Jacksonville heat with electricity, so one system usually handles both your cooling and heating, all year.

Financing

A new system, without the big upfront hit

Nobody plans for an AC replacement. When it's time, we try to make the money part as painless as the install.

0% for up to 21 months

0% financing is available on approved system replacements through Hearth.

Honest repair-or-replace advice

We won't push a new system if a repair makes more sense. You get a clear diagnosis and an upfront price for both options.

Equipment that meets today's rules

Since January 1, 2023, new split-system ACs installed in Florida must hit at least 14.3 SEER2 (13.8 for larger systems), and new heat pumps must hit 14.3 SEER2.

I had an excellent experience with Wright Brothers here in the Jacksonville area from start to finish. I am on the Westside and needed to have my AC serviced.

Newer Neighborhoods

Not every Jacksonville home is old

About a third of Jacksonville's housing was built in 2000 or later, and new subdivisions keep going up across the city. Newer homes come with their own set of questions.

Builder-grade equipment

Many newer homes ship with basic builder-grade systems. We check that yours is charged, set up and performing the way it should, and tell you straight if something's off.

Heat pump trouble

Cool air in heat mode, running nonstop or leaning on backup heat strips usually points to a defrost, reversing valve, refrigerant or thermostat issue.

Tight homes, stuffy air

Newer homes are built tight, which can hold in humidity and odors. A whole-home air purifier or dehumidifier can help.

Original systems hitting their teens

Homes built in the early 2000s often still have the original system. If it's from before 2010, it may run on R-22, which has been out of production since January 1, 2020.

Do you service Jacksonville?

Yes. Jacksonville and Duval County are part of our service area, including the Southside, Westside, Arlington, Mandarin and the historic neighborhoods. Call (904) 837-0306 or book online.

Do you offer HVAC financing in Jacksonville?

Yes. 0% financing for up to 21 months is available on approved system replacements through Hearth.

Can you add AC to a room in an older house?

Often, yes. A ductless mini split can cool an addition, sunroom or converted porch without running new ductwork through the house.

Why is one room always hotter than the rest?

In older homes it's usually leaky or undersized ductwork, poor return air or a room that was added later. We'll track down the cause before recommending a fix.

Does salt air affect AC units in Jacksonville?

It depends on where you live. Homes near the ocean deal with salt corrosion on the outdoor coil; most inland neighborhoods don't. If you're out by the beaches, see our Jacksonville Beach page.

Do you serve Bartram Springs and Mandarin?

Yes. We serve the Southside, Bartram Springs, Mandarin and the rest of Jacksonville and Duval County.

Do you install UV lights or air purifiers?

Yes. We install VIVE Air Systems UV treatment and the REME HALO whole-home air purifier, plus Aprilaire dehumidifiers. See our air quality page for details.

Do you take emergency AC calls?

Yes, we take emergency calls. We're open 24 hours Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.

What should I check before I call?

Make sure the thermostat is set to cool and a few degrees below room temperature, check that the breaker hasn't tripped, and look at your air filter. If all of that looks fine and the house still isn't cooling, call us at (904) 837-0306 and we'll take it from there.
